Castle Ramble is a magnificent medieval castle located in the north of England. The castle was built in the 12th century by the Norman baron, Ranulf de Blondeville. It is a typical example of a Norman castle, with its massive square keep, curtain walls, and inner bailey.
The castle was used as a stronghold by the de Blondeville family for over two centuries, until it was seized by the Crown in the 14th century. It was then used as a royal hunting lodge and occasional residence.
The castle passed through a number of owners in the following centuries, and was extensively damaged by fire in the 18th century. It is now in the care of the state and is open to the public.
