One team bats, trying to score as many runs as possible, whilst the other team tries to bowl them out. The team that is batting tries to hit the ball with a bat and run to the other end of the pitch, whilst the other team tries to stop them by hitting the ball with a cricket ball and then catching the batsmen out. If the ball is hit and goes over the boundary then six runs are scored. If the ball is hit and goes to the boundary but is stopped then four runs are scored. If the ball is hit and goes to the boundary but is stopped then the batsmen can only run two runs. If the ball is hit and goes to the boundary but is stopped then the batsmen are out.
When the team that is batting is all out, the other team comes in to bat. The team that has batted then becomes the fielding team. The game is over when one team has either scored more runs than the other team, or has bowled out the other team.

Cricket has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From backyard games with my brothers to playing for my high school and club team, the sport has always been a constant. I have loved every minute of it. But as I get closer to college, I am realizing that I need to start focusing on my academics more. I have decided to give up playing cricket competitively in order to focus on my studies. I am really sad to be giving up the sport that I have loved for so long, but I know it is the right decision for me. I am grateful for the opportunities cricket has given me and I know that I will always love the sport.
