The California News Publishers Association (CNPA) is pleased to announce the opening of the 2017 Photojournalism Contest. This year’s contest will feature five categories: General News, Feature, Sports, Environmental and Photo Essay.
The contest is open to all professional and amateur photographers in the United States. Submission deadline is September 15, 2017.
Winners will be announced at the CNPA Annual Convention in November. First-place winners in each category will receive a $500 cash prize, and second-place winners will receive a $250 cash prize.
The CNPA Photojournalism Contest is one of the most prestigious photojournalism contests in the country. Past winners include Pulitzer Prize winners and some of the world’s best-known photojournalists.

After careful consideration, I have decided to not submit my application to the CNPA Photojournalism program. I believe that the program would be a great opportunity for me to learn more about the field, but I am not confident that I am ready to commit to the program at this time.
