The Joint Emergency Services Interoperability Programme (JESIP) is a joint initiative between the UK Home Office and the Ministry of Defence (MOD) which was launched in October 2012. The aim of the programme is to improve the emergency services’ ability to communicate and work together during major incidents. The programme is based on the findings of the Independent Review of the London 2012 Olympics, which highlighted the need for better emergency services interoperability.
The JESIP programme has three main goals:
1. To improve the emergency services’ ability to communicate and work together during major incidents.
2. To develop common standards for emergency services interoperability.
3. To improve the training and capability of the emergency services to work together.
The JESIP programme is being delivered by a consortium of organisations led by the MOD and includes representatives from the emergency services, local authorities and other government organisations.
